Shopping Spree

December 4th, 2009

The holidays are closing in, And that means people are with their families and so on, This also often means that most shops are closed for a few days. So as a gamer who’s eager to play something new now is a great time to pick up some games so you will survive. As for me i went on a little shopping spree and picked up 5 new games.

Of course i needed something for the Wii so i picked up New Super Mario Bros, Mario Galaxy & Zelda: Twilight Princess. Since i only own a HDTV i had to buy the component cable for the Wii, Sure it helped a lot with the two Mario games, But damn, Zelda still looks like crap. Could be that it is an NGC port? I would love to enjoy this title, but kinda hard when it look so bad. Guess i just have to get well drunk and then play the game =).

And of course the Xbox 360 needed some love, for the Xbox 360 i picked up Ghostbusters & Brütal Legend. And damn was Ghostbusters a treat! Growing up with the movies the game hit just the right spot, Sure it was a kinda short game, But it’s a game i will revisit every time i re-watch the movies ( which happens like 10 times per year )

I cannot say much about Brütal Legend since it’s being installed to the 360 HDD while i write this post, But i will be sure to post my opinion about it sometime next week. Ohh, Installed just finished, Time to hit some Brütal Legend.

Ghostbuster: The Video Game, Region Free

June 10th, 2009

posted a while back about how Sony pretty much stabbed Europe in the back with the upcoming release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game. But today something very nice showed up the site Destructoid. They report that the NTSC version of the game will be region free, So us people who live in the PAL territory may now place their orders for the North American release.

Sony have opened Pandoras box

May 7th, 2009

After is was announced that Sony decided to buy up Ghostbuster: The Videogame in Europe i decided to browse a bunch of games sites and forums to see what people thought about Sony screwing Europe over. And holy crap, i have never read so much flaming about a company before. On most forums even Playstation 2 & 3 owners around the world think that the stunt Sony pulled is bullshit.
So good luck closing Pandoras box Sony, You pissed of pretty much every gamer in Europe.

Sony grabs Ghostbusters

May 6th, 2009

Everyone across all platforms are looking forward to play Ghostbuster: The Video Game. But now Sony have gone and done something that caused rage across the internet. Sony have bought the rights to publish the Playstation 2 & 3 versions of the game this June ( when the Blu-Ray version of the classic films are released ). And due to this it seems that the other platforms Xbox 360, Wii & DS releases are now threatened, While the PSP version will be released a bit later. Atari have said that they “might” be able to release the other versions later this year.
What shocks us the most is that this happens pretty much less than a month of the release.  So if you want to catch ghost this summer, Go out get a PS3 or PS2.

*UPDATE*

This will only affect the PAL versions. The NTSC version will be released as intended.

My games of 2009

January 30th, 2009
I’ve been sick of lately and I haven’t been able to get around posting much. So what better way to start off again than by posting a mammooth post. 2009 will be a good gaming year for many reasons and I’ll post what I find most interesting below. To make it easy I’ve divided the content into three parts; “Psyched”, “Anticipation level:High” and “Interesting”. We’ll start off with the Psyched category.
These are the games I’m actually psyched about. If I had to sell my soul to the devil this year it would be for these games.

1. Diablo III

This is by far the game I will die by the sword for. I’ve played the original Diablo too much really. There’s just something about the Diablo universe that draws me in. I’d really hate to choose a favourite game from Blizzard but the diablo series has something extra. After seeing the trailers and rendered videos for it I knew it was everything I wanted. If there’s a complaint anywhere it’s that some parts resemble World of Warcraft a bit too much but I’m pretty sure that I can look the other way when the game is released. There’s just nothing that can go wrong with this game. I know of no news to release a limited edition yet but that would make my day.

2. Empire: Total War

Empire Total warI remember almost having the whole world in my grasp in Medieval: Total war. Just those got damn middle eastern countries left that took so long to conquer I just left it behind. Of course by world I mean europe and a bit of africa and most of asia. This time around we will get to play as Sweden, the greatest land of all time. Can you imagine the beauty? Oh the joy. And to put the cream on the potatismos so to speak, they’re releasing it in a limited edition, though I’ve seen an even better version with a wooden box and all. Here’s the version I prebooked:

Empire special edition Nothing too fancy but still a nice box. And with a map and all. Goodie!

3. Halo Wars

Being a huge fan of the Halo franchise, a RTS of it seems like a good way to continue the world domination Bungie has/had. I for one am looking forward to it AS HELL. If you’re any kind of Halo/Bungie fan you’ll probably know that the original Halo started as a RTS, and that’s why it will be extra fun to play Halo Wars. My only beef is that it’s not developed by Bungie. The way I see it this game can go two ways, the right way when Ensemble Studios borrows just the right amount of Haloism from Bungie to make it feel like it belongs OR straight to hell because they strayed too much from what I think is the right path.

Halo Wars

A patch. *Drool*

This game is being released in a limited edition! Yum yum. And a demo is supposed to be released the 5th of february. I’ll be looking forward to that!

Aion: The Tower of Eternity

Hooray for Bewbs

There’s been something important missing for me for a while and that’s a good MMO game. Yes, 12 million people are wrong. World of Warcraft is boring. It’s not necessarily a bad game, it’s just too accessible for everyone. While WoW is too accessible, my previous mmo Lineage 2 was quite the opposite. If Aion can stay somewhere in between that would make me a happy freaking camper, I’ll tell you that. It always feels good to have a MMO to run off to when everything else seems dull. Hopefully I’ll gain a friendbase not unlike the one I had in Lineage 2 which was the best friendbase ever not counting irl friends. The times we shared and the trust we had is for me priceless. If anyone from Shadowlords/Yakuza/Whatever our name was in the end is reading this, I still think about you all from time to time. Be sure to tell me if you guys start playing Aion. I don’t think a limited edition has been announced but NCSoft is no stranger to those so I got my hopes up.

And that concludes the games I’m totally psyched about.

1. Halo 3: ODST

Although being a hardcore fan of the Halo series this game, or expansion, does not get on my psyched list for one reason: I’m not 100% comfortable with the thought of playing a new “hero” just yet. I mean, poor old chief just floating around in space and here we have this new ODST kid mantling the role of hero. But if anyone can prove me wrong and make me cry with tears of joy it’s Bungie and I hope they do it. This image of the ODST was just released by the way. Speaking of nothing… Anyways, I hope they do prove me wrong. I can’t see myself loving this game yet but time will tell. Sooner or later… Time will tell. I don’t know anything about any limited edition yet but I’m hoping for it.

2. Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5There’s one simple reason for this not being in the Psyched category, It’s gonna be the first Resident Evil game I play. I’ve never been drawn to the survival horror genre of the past (RE series, Silent Hill series). I don’t know what it is but a thought that came into my head is that I thought they were to gray and dull. I don’t know if that’s the reason but like I said, it’s gonna be the first RE game I play. I’ve already posted pics of the North American limited edition of it so I’m not gonna bother with it again. Will import if it shows up as playable on european consoles.

3. Chronicles of Riddick: AODA

assault_on_dark_athenaAfter “The Darkness” I pretty much fell in love with Starbreeze studios and got this stupid idea that everything they make is gold and I must have it. I would have gotten “Escape from butcher bay” but Patrick told me they were working on something new, kinda like a remake. I think this new game is that, not sure. You’ve seen the intro cinematics and so far so good. Can’t wait to play it. Haven’t checked for limited editions.

That concludes the A.L.H. category

Indeed, this is the category with mere “Interesting” games meaning I will probably buy them if I have cash at the time of the release but I won’t cry if I don’t get to play them.

1. Bioshock 2

If it’s even released 2009 which I hope but doubt. I hade some things I didn’t like with the original even though it was a bloody good game. Don’t get me wrong here, I’m usually no game-hater and I strive to play every game for what it is and not judge it by some “standards”. Some things with Bioshock just doesn’t cut it for me, like the “Looking out in the deep ocean” effect that they put on the windows. You can see what I mean about 32 seconds into this video: VIDEO And what I don’t like about that is that water doesn’t act that way. Anyone that’s seen or have an aquarium knows that. It may just be a minor thing to some, some may not even think about it at all but for some reason it kept bugging me in an other wise godly-water effected game.

2. Overlord 2

I loved the first one and I think it’s underrated. But noone wanted to play it with me and the multiplayer was often non-existant so I stopped playing. I don’t have any high hopes for the second installment but who knows, maybe it will be twice as good since there’s a “2″ in the title? Wishful thinking? Then maybe more people than just me will buy it and play it.

3. Ghostbusters

Not having any kind of hopes for any kind of license game other than from Starbreeze, this game looks pretty good in the previews. I’m being careful with the hype on this one though. If it turns out to be AWESOMECAKE then I will be happy. Otherwise I will just not mind that much.

4. Splinter Cell: the new one :p

Patrick told me the cancelled the production of it but hey, one can always hope right? Always been a fan of the previous games.

And that concludes my list. Do you like it? Have your own list? Post a comment why don’t you.
