Fallout 3, Mothership Zeta. Info and Screens

July 14th, 2009

New information and screenshot from the next downloadable content Mothership Zeta for Fallout 3 have been released. In orbit over the Capital Wasteland is where you can find Mothership Zeta. How do you get form Earth to the spaceship you might ask? Well there is a crashed UFO in the Capital Wasteland. No longer will this serve as one damn cool easter egg, But it’s also here you will get beamed up to the mothership. Aboard the alien craft you will be able to find other people in the same situation as you, Join forces and try to get back to earth. Along with new weapons ( Ammo for my Alien Blaster! FINALLY! ) you will also be able to claim some sweet threads, Does a Samurai Armor appeal to you? Of course it does!.

The release date for Mothership Zeta is August 3 and will cost the normal amount of 800 MS points. There is a Playstation 3 version on the way, But will be released at a later time.

So is this the final DLC we will see of Fallout 3? Mike Fahey over at Kotaku manage to get this from Pete Hines, - “Never say never, I suppose, but this was always the last one we had planned to do.”.  So there is still hope for us who wanna continue our struggle in the wasteland.

New Fallout 3 DLC, And finally some love for the PS3

May 19th, 2009

Let’s face it, Exclusive content sucks. Sure someone might be cheering for the console they own and gloat to the competition when exclusive content is given to their platform, But in the end it’s a rather sad tale that have been going around for far too long. So let me bright up the day for Playstation 3 owners who loves Fallout 3. The exclusive content that was given to Microsoft ( Operation Anchorage, The Pitt & Broken Steel ) are finally coming to the Playstation 3! Not only did Bethesda drop this on us as a surprise but they did also announce new DLC that will be coming to Xbox 360, Playstation 3 & PC.

Here is the press release from Bethesda.

“We are pleased to announce that Fallout 3 downloadable content (DLC) is coming to PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system. We have been working on implementing it for a while and look forward to bringing it to PS3 gamers via the PlayStation Network. Operation: Anchorage will be released for PS3 in late June, followed by the release of The Pitt and Broken Steel 4-6 weeks apart. Release dates will be forthcoming.

In addition, a new update will be released for PS3 that will allow users to download and play the new DLC. The release date for that update will be announced at a later date.

There are also two new DLCs planned for all three platforms:

Point Lookout – Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.

Mothership Zeta – The aliens have returned, and they’re pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you’re tough enough to survive.

Point Lookout will be available in late June for Xbox 360 and PC. Cost will be 800 points or $9.99. It will be available through Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live and through token cards available at retail. Point Lookout will be available on PS3 after the first three DLCs have been released.

Mothership Zeta is scheduled for release in late July for Xbox 360 and PC. Cost will be 800 points or $9.99. It will be available through Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live and through token cards available at retail.Mothership Zeta will be available on PS3 after Point Lookout.

Finally, new Fallout 3 products will be available at retail this year.

Fallout 3 Game Add-on Pack #1 includes The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage on a disc and will be available for Xbox 360 and PC on May 26.

The Fallout 3 Game Add-on Pack #2 includes Broken Steel and Point Lookout on a disc and will be available for Xbox 360 and PC in August.

Retail versions of the game add-on packs for PS3 are not possible and the DLC will only be available for download online via PlayStation Network.

Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition will be available in October. It will include the original game plus all five add-ons for $59.99 for Xbox 360 and PS3, and $49.99 for PC. ”

 End of press release.

Seems like the Wasteland will pull us back in once again, And we embrace it with open arms!

Tip of the day

May 18th, 2009

Judging by some of the searchits we get fom google, a lot of people are wondering about the not so few bugs in Fallout 3 and its DLC’s. Luckily, there’s an excellent site for this and it’s called The Vault, or Fallout wiki.

Here you can find information about practically anything in any Fallout game. They even have separate pages for all the bugs in the DLC’s :D

Go check it out, search for your favourite item or place and you might learn something new about it.

Fallout 3 Special

May 15th, 2009
Here we are, at the end of the road for Fallout 3. There are no more DLC’s announced (maybe we can hope for some more at E3?) and we’ve played through them all. In my opinion Fallout 3 is the uncontested game ofpippi the year 2008, and that’s no bad thing with contenders such as GTAIV or why not Dead Space. I thought it would be good fun to go through some of my thoughts for every DLC for Fallout 3 and rate this and that, so here we go.

When they first released some info on Operation: Anchorage I was pretty psyched. You got to go away from the wasteland into the snowy mountains? awesome. Except it was just a simulation but I didn’t find that out until later. Maybe I didn’t read it thorough enough.

It wasn’t all that bad when it was released however. The simulation actually felt like a simulation with non-degrading weapons, computery effects and things you would assume you could only do in a simulation. With a solid story and the seemingly never ending complexity of vault-tecs technology to do whatever, Operation anchorage was/is a good DLC but I felt there was something missing. Once it was finished I couldn’t go back and of course I didn’t pick up all the damn intel birefcases to get the perk. Sucks to be me right? Well I’m guessing I wasn’t the only one who felt that way.

One other thing that bothered me about Operation Anchorage was the bugs :D but as it is Bethesda I didn’t really expect it to be bug free either. After the main mission completed you could pick up some armor which was… Indestructible?!? That was a big shocker and at first I thought it was meant to be that way. It seems however that the non-degrading winterized T-51 Power armor from inside the simulation somehow followed you to the real world by some godly bug. It isn’t indestructible, it only has about 9,992,000 item HP in comparison to normal power armors that only has 1000 points (helmet has 999,100 points but should have 100 ponts).

The new items you get from O:A are despite the freaky bug just mentioned truly kickass. The chinese stealth armor is just out of this world. I used it all the way through Broken steel in the airfield and I was only caught because of human error. That it looks like something from a Metal Gear game is a bonus too. The only truly bad thing about O:A’s items is the Gauss Rifle which is unrepairable by yourself. gauss_rifleThe only way to repair it (at least the only way I know) is by investing some money in the traders around the wasteland and go on a search for crazy Wolfgang who can repair it up to 88%.

Summary:

A good and solid DLC that delivers awesome items and story but in the end I wanted to be able to return to the simulation. It’s pretty short and the bugs are many.

The expectations for “The Pitt” was huge from my part. I knew that it would NOT be a simulation, and that you would actually be able to go to an entirely new place. Judging by the pics they released I knew I would like the athmosphere right away. I’ve always been a fan of post-apocalyptic industrial looks in movies or whatever.

Arriving at The Pitt actually gave me some goosebumps, mainly because it looked and feeled exactly the way I thought it would. First thing I did was kill some daft guards and pick up one of the new weapons, an MP5 lookalike with a silencer, only to be caught by the even dafter guards in the next area and stripped of all my inventory. Bastards…

Playing through The Pitt was a total blast if you don’t count the collecting of 100 steel ingots, and this is the best DLC if you ask me. Everything just feels so dirty and rusty, even dirtier than in the wasteland. The items presented here are very unique and whenever I’m not using the Chinese stealth armor from O:A I’m using the tribal power armor with the Filtration mask. You’re also presented with the auto-axe and a new laser rifle. The auto-axe is very sadistic and can be extremely fun when taking on large groups of whatever enemy. I can almost guarantee that bodyparts will fly..

The only bad part about The Pitt is not surprisingly, the bugs. Sometime around the last mission I think I did something wrong because when it was finished everyone was still talking about it as if it didn’t happen. The Pitt was also corrupted on release and made peoples saves unusable. I had the great luck of being slow and not downloading it the moment it was released so it didn’t apply to me but everyone had to wait just a bit longer to play it.

Summary:

The best of the three DLC’s. Doesn’t get the highest score just because of it’s numerous bugs. Overall kickass athmosphere, story and items. A bit longer than O:A but still very short :(

We all knew that the level cap would be raised to 30 in this last DLC so it didn’t come as a shock. This whole DLC feels like a big patch for the original game as it should hav been from the beginning. With a few extras of course, for example the airfield and the new weapons/enemies.

To even be able to play the Broken steel content you have to finish the mainquest. That part was particularly hard for me since I was playing on Very Hard and Prime kept bugging out and got stuck at places he shouldn’t. I think it took about 5 tries to even get to Project Purity, where I was ambushed by about 9 angry enclave fuckers that killed me faster than a buttered lightning in a fryingpan.

The ending is still the same and I thought it had bugged out on me again but then I woke up to the not so sweet face of Elder Lyons telling me I was knocked out and had been in a coma for a whopping two weeks. The mainquest of Broken steel leads to the destruction of the major Enclave force which is kinda sad since they’re so fun to kill.

The best part of Broken steel is when you get to assault the airbase. Going through the white house catacombs you’ll meet some nasty as hell ghouls. And again, bugs ruin some of the fun. I don’t know what it is but i KNOW I was shooting the god damn ghouls but my shots just kept on going straight through them. At the airbase you pick up the most awesome projectile weapon in the game yet, the Tesla Cannon.
teslacannon
It will destroy any vertibird in one shot and it will kill almost anything with a well aimed shot to the head in sneak mode. You’ll probably never run out of ammo for it either.

Since the levelcap was raised to 30, a bunch of new perks is available at every other level. Most of them feel very unique but some of them feel like they are only there to satisfy gamers who complain about some of the achievements.

The ending of Broken Steel is an explosive one similar to blowing up Megaton, but you won’t be using a nuke this time, and you won’t be blowing up Megaton. It is so beautiful I had to watch it two times.

Summary:

Despite the feel of a patch to the original game Broken Steel delivers some awesome content to the gameworld. The airfield is a good piece of worldcontent and the Tesla Cannon is a monster.

Fallout 3 – Broken Steel, Info and Screens

April 22nd, 2009

Bethesda have released 6 new screens from their third expansion to Fallout 3 called Broken Steel. This expansion will remove the ending of the original main quest so you will be able to continue after the “final showdown” at Project Purity. Level cap will be increased to 30 instead of the previous cap at 20, New perks and monsters will be introduced.

But here is the thing that worries me about Broken Steel, Apparently Broken Steel main quest is “a bit” longer than The Pitt.
which Bethesda claimed would take about 4 hours to complete. Well sure it “could” take 4 hours if you hunted the 100 steel ingots. But say if you passed the ingots you might get 1 hour out of The Pitt. Let’s just hope the 4-5 hours of gameplay Bethesda claims Broken Steel will have is true, and not sending you to find 100 of something else.
Broken Steel is schedule to be released on May 5 and will sell for 800 Microsoft Points.

The Pitt – Played through

March 26th, 2009

I finished The Pitt late last night and all in all I’m satified. It started with a radio distresscall telling me to go north and a map marker was added. When I came there a bunch of slavers were selling slaves and the plan was to infiltrate the place as a slavebuyer, but seeing as I am a psychotic genocider things quickly turned to the worse for the slavers.

Arriving at The Pitt you’ll see a display of awesome marksmanship with the .44 and smoke in the distance. The graphics for this new expansion is nothing less than awesome. Everything has been redone or made new except for some standard items like first aid boxes and such. The whole wasteland feeling is gone and I had a sort of fallen industrial feeling throughout the whole expansion, which is good.

Now the length of the expansion isn’t super impressive if you think about it, the only thing that takes a “really” long time is collecting 100 items for a specific achievement. The game only makes you get ten of those items so you don’t even have to torture yourself with collecting every single one but we did anyway :D We downloaded it around 9-10 PM and I finished it around 2-3 AM with alot of exploring and finding all the items but I kinda rushed it and killed everyone that stood in my way in my normal sense of fashion. It could be played through properly with some role-playing I guess and I’m gonna try that with my good character.

The new items you get doesn’t need a more thorough explanation other than they kick ass. The auto-axe, a silenced assault rifle, an armor that reminds me of the Mad Max movies and many more goodies await you. You’ll also get access to a really useful machine in the end but what it is I’ll let you find out yourself.

A few of my thoughts and points about this expansion:

  • It’s better and bigger than Operation Anchorage but not necessarily longer
  • The level cap still isn’t raised to 30, that’s for the last DLC
  • You CAN move back and forth from the Capital Wasteland to the Pitt after you finish its mainquest
  • Despite the delay of 1 day I still love Bethesda :D
  • It’s a well worth download for anyone owning a 360 or PC and like Fallout 3

And that’s that. Until the next DLC, this is FOOOUR CAT JOCKE, MJAAAUUU signing off…

(tss :p)

Fallout 3 – The Pitt problems

March 24th, 2009

As you might have notice the new expansion pack to Bethesda’s Fallout 3 called The Pitt went up on the Marketplace today, but was later removed after bugs and glitches was found in the English version of the content. People who where affected by the bug experienced crashes and save files became corrupted, Not a nice thing to happen to a 90+ hour save file.

Bethesda a currently working to solve the issue. We here at ButtonMashers who are eager to get our hands on this new content will report as soon the content is fixed.
