Aion madness

September 28th, 2009

So the game is released and seems to be more popular than the community thought. I for one love the game so far, and I can even manage to play it solo without being bored to death since my ingame friend levelled past me like a madman. It runs smoother than a baby’s bottom and it’s the most finished MMO I’ve ever played at release. I’ve yet to encounter any bug… ANY bug at all! No crashes, No server downtime, No bugs in-game and a steady FPS everywhere but in the most crowded areas in the cities. But there’s just one thing…

Server is full. Position in queue:

1966/1966

Estimated waiting time: 1hr 58min

Sigh..

How about 48 hours a day? at least..

September 25th, 2009

So many things to do and so little time. The nightmare autumn of many gamereleases and an empty wallet has started with ODST and a breakdown of my PSU(Power Supply Unit) for my computer. The only thing that saved me from a mental breakdown and apathy was ODST with it’s surprisingly refreshing gameplay. It’s just so good in every way and even though I miss Master Chief, the rookie gave me a few hours of pure halo awesomeness. And since we’re about 6 people or so that I know bought it, firefight is being grinded hard. I’m gonna try to review it if I find the time and I think Patrick mentioned he would write a little piece about something in it as well.

About my computer breakdown, I unplugged the powercord from the wall one night because something was making a noise that became unbearable(I found out that it was my DiNovo edge keyboard while loading its batteries. Thanks for that). Then the next day when I was plugging it in again BANG, and the plug went and everything went dark. Last afternoon I replaced the PSU with a new one and now it’s up and running like new again. But seriously, I’m beginning to think that Aion is cursed since I had another breakdown while playing the closed beta before.

The store I pre-ordered it from sent my CE of Aion yesterday so I’ll have it later today and naturally I can’t wait. I’m surprised of how well the release is going. I’ve only had to queue one time and so far it hasn’t crashed once unlike so many other MMO’s in their starting days/weeks. More about this later on.

All is well

June 17th, 2009

Because I managed to get some shit together and buy a new graphic card. I will be writing an article about the beta time on monday or tuesday. I didn’t get a leading graphics card because it was too damn expensive. Plus I don’t have two PCI-E 16x slots right next to eachother.

Aion Beta is about to come…

June 17th, 2009

And my god damn son of a puke sucking graphic card thought it would be a good idea to break down the day before yesterday and I don’t have any money to buy a new one before the 25th. But how is this really a problem? Because the beta starts on the 19th and ends on the 21st!?!?!? Does someone hate me or is it karma for something I’ve done? *cry*

In swedish:

Som tack för att du förbokat Aion hos oss på Webhallen så får du nu möjlighet att vara med i betatestet pågår mellan 19-21 juni.

My games of 2009

January 30th, 2009
I’ve been sick of lately and I haven’t been able to get around posting much. So what better way to start off again than by posting a mammooth post. 2009 will be a good gaming year for many reasons and I’ll post what I find most interesting below. To make it easy I’ve divided the content into three parts; “Psyched”, “Anticipation level:High” and “Interesting”. We’ll start off with the Psyched category.
These are the games I’m actually psyched about. If I had to sell my soul to the devil this year it would be for these games.

1. Diablo III

This is by far the game I will die by the sword for. I’ve played the original Diablo too much really. There’s just something about the Diablo universe that draws me in. I’d really hate to choose a favourite game from Blizzard but the diablo series has something extra. After seeing the trailers and rendered videos for it I knew it was everything I wanted. If there’s a complaint anywhere it’s that some parts resemble World of Warcraft a bit too much but I’m pretty sure that I can look the other way when the game is released. There’s just nothing that can go wrong with this game. I know of no news to release a limited edition yet but that would make my day.

2. Empire: Total War

Empire Total warI remember almost having the whole world in my grasp in Medieval: Total war. Just those got damn middle eastern countries left that took so long to conquer I just left it behind. Of course by world I mean europe and a bit of africa and most of asia. This time around we will get to play as Sweden, the greatest land of all time. Can you imagine the beauty? Oh the joy. And to put the cream on the potatismos so to speak, they’re releasing it in a limited edition, though I’ve seen an even better version with a wooden box and all. Here’s the version I prebooked:

Empire special edition Nothing too fancy but still a nice box. And with a map and all. Goodie!

3. Halo Wars

Being a huge fan of the Halo franchise, a RTS of it seems like a good way to continue the world domination Bungie has/had. I for one am looking forward to it AS HELL. If you’re any kind of Halo/Bungie fan you’ll probably know that the original Halo started as a RTS, and that’s why it will be extra fun to play Halo Wars. My only beef is that it’s not developed by Bungie. The way I see it this game can go two ways, the right way when Ensemble Studios borrows just the right amount of Haloism from Bungie to make it feel like it belongs OR straight to hell because they strayed too much from what I think is the right path.

Halo Wars

A patch. *Drool*

This game is being released in a limited edition! Yum yum. And a demo is supposed to be released the 5th of february. I’ll be looking forward to that!

Aion: The Tower of Eternity

Hooray for Bewbs

There’s been something important missing for me for a while and that’s a good MMO game. Yes, 12 million people are wrong. World of Warcraft is boring. It’s not necessarily a bad game, it’s just too accessible for everyone. While WoW is too accessible, my previous mmo Lineage 2 was quite the opposite. If Aion can stay somewhere in between that would make me a happy freaking camper, I’ll tell you that. It always feels good to have a MMO to run off to when everything else seems dull. Hopefully I’ll gain a friendbase not unlike the one I had in Lineage 2 which was the best friendbase ever not counting irl friends. The times we shared and the trust we had is for me priceless. If anyone from Shadowlords/Yakuza/Whatever our name was in the end is reading this, I still think about you all from time to time. Be sure to tell me if you guys start playing Aion. I don’t think a limited edition has been announced but NCSoft is no stranger to those so I got my hopes up.

And that concludes the games I’m totally psyched about.

1. Halo 3: ODST

Although being a hardcore fan of the Halo series this game, or expansion, does not get on my psyched list for one reason: I’m not 100% comfortable with the thought of playing a new “hero” just yet. I mean, poor old chief just floating around in space and here we have this new ODST kid mantling the role of hero. But if anyone can prove me wrong and make me cry with tears of joy it’s Bungie and I hope they do it. This image of the ODST was just released by the way. Speaking of nothing… Anyways, I hope they do prove me wrong. I can’t see myself loving this game yet but time will tell. Sooner or later… Time will tell. I don’t know anything about any limited edition yet but I’m hoping for it.

2. Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5There’s one simple reason for this not being in the Psyched category, It’s gonna be the first Resident Evil game I play. I’ve never been drawn to the survival horror genre of the past (RE series, Silent Hill series). I don’t know what it is but a thought that came into my head is that I thought they were to gray and dull. I don’t know if that’s the reason but like I said, it’s gonna be the first RE game I play. I’ve already posted pics of the North American limited edition of it so I’m not gonna bother with it again. Will import if it shows up as playable on european consoles.

3. Chronicles of Riddick: AODA

assault_on_dark_athenaAfter “The Darkness” I pretty much fell in love with Starbreeze studios and got this stupid idea that everything they make is gold and I must have it. I would have gotten “Escape from butcher bay” but Patrick told me they were working on something new, kinda like a remake. I think this new game is that, not sure. You’ve seen the intro cinematics and so far so good. Can’t wait to play it. Haven’t checked for limited editions.

That concludes the A.L.H. category

Indeed, this is the category with mere “Interesting” games meaning I will probably buy them if I have cash at the time of the release but I won’t cry if I don’t get to play them.

1. Bioshock 2

If it’s even released 2009 which I hope but doubt. I hade some things I didn’t like with the original even though it was a bloody good game. Don’t get me wrong here, I’m usually no game-hater and I strive to play every game for what it is and not judge it by some “standards”. Some things with Bioshock just doesn’t cut it for me, like the “Looking out in the deep ocean” effect that they put on the windows. You can see what I mean about 32 seconds into this video: VIDEO And what I don’t like about that is that water doesn’t act that way. Anyone that’s seen or have an aquarium knows that. It may just be a minor thing to some, some may not even think about it at all but for some reason it kept bugging me in an other wise godly-water effected game.

2. Overlord 2

I loved the first one and I think it’s underrated. But noone wanted to play it with me and the multiplayer was often non-existant so I stopped playing. I don’t have any high hopes for the second installment but who knows, maybe it will be twice as good since there’s a “2″ in the title? Wishful thinking? Then maybe more people than just me will buy it and play it.

3. Ghostbusters

Not having any kind of hopes for any kind of license game other than from Starbreeze, this game looks pretty good in the previews. I’m being careful with the hype on this one though. If it turns out to be AWESOMECAKE then I will be happy. Otherwise I will just not mind that much.

4. Splinter Cell: the new one :p

Patrick told me the cancelled the production of it but hey, one can always hope right? Always been a fan of the previous games.

And that concludes my list. Do you like it? Have your own list? Post a comment why don’t you.

Aion: The Tower of Eternity

January 12th, 2009

Speaking of mmo’s,

a new one called Aion is almost here and I have to say I’m really REALLY interested. I got really bored with World of Warcraft ages ago but people has always managed to drag me back for a while. Well, no more.

Made by NCSoft, makers of such games as Lineage 1 & 2, Guildwars, City of Heroes/Villains and so forth, it has a similar look but is running on a modified cryEngine, which has been used in FarCry among other games. The game is PvPvE based, which means that two playercontrolled factions will be fighting agains each other, while there is a computercontrolled faction that’s hostile to both as far as I know. In a description I read somewhere, they say they’re mixing eastern styled design with western action-oriented combat to make grinding less apparent. If they manage that to some extent then this is where you’ll find me for the next 2 or so years.

Click the image below to go to the official european website (which looks alot better than the US one). From there you can find a bunch of fansites for different countries.
